Howdy! My name is Mattie Richardson. I have formerly been known as "North Dakota's Teen Author" since I did a lot of writing in my teenage years and I am currently the author of seven middle-grade historical fiction novels and two accompanying enrichment guides.

I am working on more books (of course) but being a full-time librarian and part-time musician and journalist doesn't leave me as much time as I would like. As of 2023, I am the mother of two children now, too!

 I wrote my first book, Appaloosy, when I was thirteen years old, and my venture into author-hood has grown since then. I have been the subject of articles and book reviews, a speaker at schools and events, and attend various events throughout the year.

 

My goal in my writing is of course, to make a little bit of a living for myself--being an author is my dream. But also it is a goal of mine to encourage other young writers.

 

I started writing seriously when I was thirteen and published my first book at sixteen. Writing is my passion, and I want other young authors to have the same kind of love for writing that I do.
